Mission: Improving our relationship with our animal companions and our ability to care for them through education, preventive medicine and understanding.

There is a joy in nurturing.  It connects us with each other and with our animals friends. To nurture, we must understand needs.  To understand needs, we must be able to understand what they are trying to tell us.  To socialize and train our animals to live with us, we must be able to tell them what we want from them as well.

Through many years of working with both people and animals and studying the work of other veterinarians and trainers, the people at Veterinary Outreach and Phoenix Ranch have learned to blend an appreciation of science and a joy for life.  it is our goal to share our discoveries  with others.

VETERINARY SERVICES AND EDUCATION

Health care is an important part of keeping our animals happy.  We provide a housecall/mobile preventive care program to make it convenient and affordable.  Though we cannot perform surgery or hospitalization at this time, we can handle many non-lifethreatening problems (itchy skin, ear problems,  "colds," goopy eyes, etc.)  satisfactorily.   We also encourage microchipping to make it more likely that you get your pet back if it were ever to wander off or be taken from your home.

It's important that your experience owning your pet is a pleasant one for all involved.  Home visits give us an opportunity to help you best with behavior issues because we can see how all the family members interact and the environment in which behavior problems might have started.

Group visits are encouraged so that more people will become educated and aware of how to spot health problems in their pets and learn basic care and nutrition to keep them healthy. A holistic approach is used and referrals can be made to appropriate  full service and alternative health care specialists.  We also can help you with behavior problems in your animals.

We carry products for the convenience of our clients to encourage natural healing and make animal care easier. This includes  grooming  and dental care supplies, nutritional supplements, flea control, muzzles, and clickers for training.

Because many people find the technical  language of their veterinarians difficult,  we offer for a reasonable fee "interpretation services" and second opinion of the care your animal may already be receiving.

Presentations, reports, technical analysis and informational articles can be done on a wide variety of subjects.

PHOENIX RANCH

Phoenix Ranch is an 8 acre ranch  between Sacramento and San Francisco, California off I-80.  It is set on a hillside facing Mount Diablo and the Coastal Ranges, where the Delta Breezes cool us on hot summer afternoons.  We raise a wide variety of animals, which helps us learn their needs and natural behaviors in a mixed-species social setting.  The pastures are gravity-irrigated and no herbicides are used to keep the thistles in check.  Thus, we experience visits from many species of reptiles, birds and hawks.

We raise and offer socialized miniature horses, African parrots, cockatiels and laying hens for sale to suitable homes.

As an affiliate of CETA Foundation (California Education Through Animals) Phoenix Ranch offers many ways to experience interacting with animals:

  • We can bring animals to your site for educational presentations and workshops.
  • We can work with therapists to provide their clients with the healing experience of the human animal bond.
  • We can arrange ranch visits for small groups to learn about many aspects of working and living with animals and nature.
  •  We prepare rescued animals for foster/adoptive families and provide support services as they settle in.
